Optimisation of the superconducting critical temperature in the Emery model
*Giovanni Sordi*, Royal Holloway University of London
Investigating the superconducting critical temperature trends in cuprates is crucial for deciphering the underlying mechanism of high-temperature superconductivity. I will discuss this problem in the canonical model of the copper-oxygen plane, the Emery model, with cellular dynamical mean-field theory at finite temperature. Using the Zaanen-Sawatzky-Allen diagram as a guiding framework, I will discuss three conditions that optimise Tcmax in the Emery model: upon doping a charge-transfer insulator, close to the charge-transfer insulator to metal boundary, and, unexpectedly, deep into the charge-transfer regime, as this region displays large oxygen hole content. While the first two conditions were previously established, identifying the third condition is the key contribution of our work [1,2]. This finding opens up unexplored paths for optimising Tcmax, captures observed trends in hole-doped cuprates, and offers predictions for recent proposals to realise the Emery model with ultracold atoms.
Lattice model approach for cuprates: importance of effective interactions for superconducting Tc
*Jakša Vučičević*,Institute of Physics Belgrade
In this talk, I will present our recent results on modeling cuprate superconductors. We investigate the foundations of the lattice model approach, and introduce a rigorous formal procedure to perform downfolding. In this formalism, lattice models can be understood as truncations of the exact downfolded action, and the standard methods to parametrize the models can be understood diagrammatically [1]. We apply the standard downfolding procedure to a large number of cuprate compounds, and obtain a dataset of density functional theory (DFT) bandstructures and parameters for the Hubbard and Emery models. We analyze statistical correlations of experimentally observed Tc with model parameters, as well as with features of the crystal structure and the DFT bandstructure. Our data suggests that interactions on the oxygen orbitals and effective interaction retardation play a role in determining the magnitude of Tc [2]. Finally, we study ways to extract the effective coupling constant by comparing DMFT theory with experimental results and cross-check our parametrization [3].
